Energy-Efficient Lighting Technologies

Artificial lighting is accounted for about 20-35 percent of energy consumption in commercial buildings and 12-30 percent in residential buildings. Because of this, new lighting technologies are developed to increase efficiency. The last decade has witnessed the dramatic evolution of ordinary lamps, giving birth to innovative light bulbs. On top of the list are the compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), which are also known as compact fluorescent lights. These bulbs can save energy for around 40 watts more than the incandescent lamps and are relatively cheaper compared to the other energy-saving lights. In addition, the ultra compact version of CFL bulbs can last for about 10 times or more than the incandescent types, because it cuts energy usage by about 75%. What is more remarkable about CFLs are their light intensity. Unlike the ordinary bulbs, they produce less heat by converting more power into light.

Next in line are the blue patriotic lights. These bulbs usually contain three or more LEDs inside them, enabling them to reduce energy usage. They have a working life of about 100,000 hours, and they only need eight watts of power. Because of this, blue patriotic lights are very ideal for home decoration purposes such as garden light landscaping.

The last but not the least energy-saving bulbs in the list are the halogen lights. These lamps work at 38 watt power and are 10 to 20 percent more efficient than the ordinary lighting systems. Halogen lighting system contain a small amount of halogen gas inside the bulb, making them more efficient and long lasting. They can last for around five years in both commercial and residential settings.
