Knowing the Lights You See in Gymnasiums

Gymnasiums are where exciting matches of basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, dance sport, and the like happen. These places are also a constant witness to the dramatic, triumphant, joyous, and breath-taking moments in the world of sports. As such, gymnasiums need to be clean, fully functional, and well-maintained. Most important, they need a lot of lights. After all, proper illumination is needed for all the players to see what they are doing and for all the audience to witness every bit of the action. Discussed below are some important details regarding gym lights.

First of all, the area of a gymnasium has to be considered before lighting fixtures are installed. Naturally, the bigger the building, the more light it will need. There are two types of lamps usually utilised in a sports gym – single light and twin lights luminary fixtures. If the structure is small or encompasses only one basketball court, using single light lamps is no problem. These have to be hung at least 22 feet or 6.7 metres above the court floor. Additionally, it is ideal that these fixtures are hung in a row. Now, if the gym is large, using twin lights luminary fixtures are best. This is because these consume less energy and are more durable. They also need to hang at the same height mentioned above. There is no need to install them in a row however.

Aside from that, spotlights might be needed in gymnasiums. These are useful during special events on the court. An example would be when a local celebrity performs during half time. Bathing her with the glow of spotlights would definitely make the whole thing more memorable.

Overall, gyms are places where plenty of light is needed and you have just learned important facts about that matter!
